DUKE 390 CRASH

Buy video

This accident happened in November 2015 where I was commuting on the way to work on a Friday morning on the N1 between Plattekloof Rd and Giel Basson Drive in Cape Town. With the traffic the way it is on our highways, motorcyclists lane split/filter in order to get to work faster as lane splitting is legal in South Africa.

The driver of the VW Polo changed lanes in front of me at the same time as I was looking in my mirror. The driver didn't however check their mirror or blindspot to see if it was safe to change lanes and crossed into my path leaving me without enough time to react.

I didn't sustain any major injuries, just scrapes and bruises, but was left with a written off motorcycle due to the extend of it's damage.

My intent with the uploading of this video was to raise awareness for motorcyclists, by imploring motorists to drive sensibly, and be aware of their surroundings.
