Fire at State Representatives OfficeNarrative is taken from Station2.org website written by Chief Williams
At 01:02 the Mt. Carmel Fire Department was dispatched for a working building fire at State Representative Bob Belfanti's office at 15 W. Avenue. On routine patrol, borough police officers noticed smoke coming from the building and made the call. At 01:06 Rescue 5, Truck 2, along with Chiefs 1 (Reed) & 2 (Williams) rolled in, with Chief 2 taking command. They were followed by Engine 2 shortly thereafter. Rescue 5 personnel did a good job knocking down the fire with a watercan while E2 secured a water supply at Ave. & Oak and stretched an attack line. Stations 2 & 5 made the interior attack, led by Captain 2 (Jim Williams), quickly getting the fire extinguished. They contained fire damage to the first floor of the 2 story building. A crew from Station 3 performed horizontal ventilation in tandem with the interior attack. Engine 3 secured a backup water supply, as did Engine 1.A State Police Fire Marshall investigated with Chiefs 1 & 2 and borough police, determining that the fire was intentionally set.
