Black bear in backyard pool

Buy video

My family and I were eating in our dining area when my husband got up to get water. He looked out the kitchen window and saw huge waves in our pool! He ran to the dining room to tell us that there was a bear in our pool! We looked out the dining room window which is directly facing the pool and I quickly grabbed my phone to video it. It was shocking to see a bear of about 300-400 pounds in OUR swimming pool. We have a fenced in yard and couldn't image a bear would ever be back there, let alone in our pool. I only was able to catch a few minutes of the bear swimming, then he managed to climb out of the pool and walk across our backyard. He tried to get out by climbing over the fence, but failed to do so. He then attempted another part of the fence where he finally got up and made it to the tree, where he climbed out!
As you can tell from my voice in the video, I was shocked, excited, and scared all at once! I couldn't believe my eyes. I am an animal lover, but this was a little scary since it was in my very own yard! I have seen deer, racoons, bunnies, chipmunks, groundhogs, and tinier animals in our area, but never bears. We live in a pretty flat residential area with houses surrounding one another. Yet a few miles away is a little bit more of a rural area with woods. However, I would never expect to see something like this! Turns out our neighbors had a few sightings as well, which we were unaware of. Now we are much more cautious being outside, especially with our small children and dogs. Hope you enjoy our video.
