The footage, captured in Canberra on Wednesday, shows the moth lying on the ground, measuring as long as one of his fingers.
The filmer and his family can be heard expressing their shock at the size of the insect.
"The biggest moth I've ever seen with amazing markings," the filmer wrote online.
"I'd challenge a scientist to tell me what it is ."
