An amazing video has emerged of an an encounter between two kayakers and a killer whale off the coast of Northland, New Zealand.

The footage, captured on March 24, shows the animal rising to the surface and nearly colliding with one of the kayakers.

''My wife and I came across three orcas in Tauranga Bay. A large male, a female and a calf,'' the filmer later wrote online.

''The calf especially was quite interested in us and came very very close a couple of times but without touching the kayaks at all.''

''It was indeed scary and although I don't believe they would ever do anything harmful they are just so big and could have done with us as they liked,'' he continued.

''A couple of time one came swimming right towards the kayak and I was sure they would bump into us but each time they just rolled gently to one side and slid gracefully right under the kayak without touching it.''
