Video has emerged of a large fire at a music shop in Vancouver on Sunday evening (October 15).

According to the filmer, the fire started in a building that is home to the the African Arts and Percussion Shop.

In the video, the building can be seen ablaze, with a huge plume of smoke going up into the sky. Firefighters can be seen tackling the blaze.

The filmer writes: "There was a loud explosion at one point.

"Fire engines started to roll in and the crew got to work to tackle the fire. At the peak there was about five fire engines and crews tackling the fire from the front and the rear of the burning building.

"The fire seemed to be only burning on the second and third floor indoors and on the ground level outside where the gas meter was. At one point the gas meter blew and flames were hissing from the pipes.

"The fire lasted about an hour before it was suppressed as far as I could tell. The city shut power down in surrounding area for about 45 minutes before returning it."

According to local media, fire officials have not yet said whether anyone was hurt, or what may have caused the fire.

Around 9pm I awoke to my girlfriend exclaiming there was a fire outside. We saw the blaze from our balcony at our apartment and went outside to the rooftop parking lot of the MEC to get a better view. From the parking lot we had a elevated view to the carnage happening across the street. The incident took place at the African drum & percussion centre on West broadway between Manitoba and Columbia. There was a loud explosion at one point and Green light lit up the street. Unsure as to what exploded, but I am assuming something electrical. Shortly after we got to our better vantage point fireengines started to roll in and the crew got to work to tackle the fire.
