Armed police escort ballot papers to counting centre
Armed police in heavy-duty vehicles have escorted ballot papers to a tallying centre in Kenya's disputed presidential election in the opposition stronghold of Kibera, a Nairobi slum district.
In video filmed at dusk today (October 26), scores of buses carrying ballot papers are accompanied by anti-riot police in a sign of the heightened security as Kenyans once again head to the polls in a presidential vote. A heavy-duty police vehicle also accompanies the buses.
According to the filmer, police were escorting the ballot papers from the Olympic Primary School in Kibera to the constituency tallying center for counting after demonstrations had been held against taking part in today's vote by supporters of the opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) movement, in which running battles took place between protesters and riot police.
According to agency reports, earlier in the day the polling station at Olympic Primary School came under attack from youths throwing stones in an attempt to put off voters.
It had reportedly opened hours late because of a lack of security.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga had called on supporters to boycott the election.
A re-run of the presidential election was held today following annulment of a August 8 election by the country's Supreme Court.
