Sundown winter solstice Montol Parade
The annual Montol festival at Penzance takes place every year on the date of the winter solstice. Processions of Guise dancers make their way through the town, carrying lanterns in traditional costume. The Montol banner contains the sun resplendent as the central image, marking the suns return. Below the sun is the symbol of St Thomas the Apostle whose Saints day is also on the 21st of December.
