A hands-free suitcase that follows its owner around has been unveiled at a major consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

The much-hyped "robo-suitcase" - officially known as the CX-1, made by ForwardX robotics - is an autonomous suitcase that, thanks to its set of cameras and sensors, is able to auto-follow owners in airports and avoid obstacles. It can be controlled through gestures.

It has been described as the "world's first self-driving carry-on."

The video, which was shot on January 8, shows the smart luggage being demoed at CES 2018.

The show kicked off on January 9 and runs until January 12. More than 170,000 attendees are expected and more than 3,900 companies will showcase their prototypes with focuses, from AI technology to self-driving cars and next-generation TV sets.

ForwardX CX-1 features auto-follow, obstacle avoidance, gesture control, mobile charger, four-wheel drive and visual identity, etc.

You don't have to grab onto them to drag them anymore, just instead let the camera sensor from inside the bag learn who the owner is, and then follow you around the airport, hands-free.
