LIGHTS OUT IN LONDON

Buy video

A great video has emerged online of London's landmarks plunged into darkness last night to commemorate the fallen, a century since World War One was declared.

The video captures the Southbank during the 'hour of reflection' between 10pm and 11pm and shows the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and The London Eye all turning off their lights, leaving a single beam of light to pierce the City skyline.

The London Art Installation's single projected beam was inspired by former foreign secretary Sir Edward Grey's famous words when war began 100 years ago.

Buildings around the country, including Tower Bridge and 10 Downing Street, took part in the national 'Lights Out' campaign of remembrance.
