Clashes broke out on the streets of Worcester on Saturday when far-right supporters of the English Defence League marched through the city to protest against the building of a new mosque.

The relatively small group of far-right protesters was met by 200 counter-protesters, some of who were members of the local Muslim community.

As they marched down Broad Street towards the counter-protesters, EDL supporters could be heard chanting "you can stick you fucking Islam up your arse!" and "Mohammed was a paedo".

Skirmishes broke out between the counter-protesters, police and EDL supporters.

A number of arrests were made, according to an eyewitness.

Broad Street, Worcester, Worcestershire, UK. 21st July 2018. Up to 40 English Defence League supporters took to the streets of Worcester to protest against a proposed new mosque building in the city. Scores of police formed a barrier in Broad Street between English Defence League supporters and approximately 200 vocal counter-protesters comprising of students, trade union members, local councillors and members of the local muslim community. Skirmishes broke out between the counter-protesters, police and EDL supporters with a number of injuries and arrests made.
