A dramatic video has emerged capturing the moment a skydiving student spun out of control during a jump.

The footage, shot on a fellow skydiver’s helmet-mounted camera earlier this year, shows the man jumping out of a plane at 4,000 metres and receiving assistance from two instructors.

However, when the men let go of the student he suddenly starts spinning and appears unable to control his fall.

Eventually one of the instructors manages to get in the student’s eye line and reminds him to pull his parachute.

According to the filmer, the reason the student started spinning was because he failed to arch his back properly: “All students are taught to arch but this student ended up on his back and started spinning like a top.”

“We teach the students that if they're spinning out of control for more than five seconds, and they can't regain control, that they should pull their parachute immediately, no matter how disorientated they are.”

“This student was in shock. It was only when he spotted the instructor in black that he realised what was happening and pulled the parachute.”

“If the student doesn't pull the pilot chute, the AAD (automatic activation device) will do the job. But we try do avoid these kind of things.”

All students are taught to arch. ARCH! Yet, from time to time, this doesn’t work so well. This skydiving student ends up on his back, spinning like a top. Fun times. How well did your AFF Level 3 go?

How high? 4000 meters / 13000 feets.

Why did it happen? He didn`t arch and he started spining on his back.

Why is the spinning bad? We teach the students if they're spinning out of control on a AFF Level 3 for more than 5 seconds, and they can't regain control, they're supposed to pull immediately, no matter what orientation they're in.
The student was in shock, only when the instructor in black entered in him with his body, he realized and pulled.

What would have been the consequences had the parachute not been released? If the student doesn't pull the pilot chute, the AAD (automatic activation device) will do his job. But again we try do avoid this kind of things.
