A smart rooster plays Chinese songs on a keyboard after being trained to do so by a university student in southwestern China.

The impressive video, filmed in the city of Guiyang in Guizhou Province on December 4, shows a rooster pecking at individual keys to the tune of a Chinese patriotic song called "Me and My Country" as well as a pop song called "Fairy Tale" on the keyboard.

The young man named Xiao Chuang is a student at Guizhou Vocational College of Agriculture, learning pet care and training. He borrowed the rooster from a nearby farmer and trained him for around two months.

Xiao said the rooster was trained twice a day during feeding time and each training session lasted around five minutes.

肖闯说，大概一天训练两次，就是吃饭的时候，持续的时间是五六分钟，现在暂时就训练弹琴。当时是因为宠物训导老师让驯鸡，进行期末考试。这只公鸡是从附近农户家里买来的，通过两个月训导会弹琴。原理是利用行为学上的操作性条件反射。
肖闯的老师何世宇说，鸡没有那么多想法，训练的话只要有奖励物，有玉米面，鸡饲料就可以了，训练时间长了就会形成肌肉记忆。
