Fresh flowers are laid on the tomb of Andrei Karlov in Khimki Cemetery (also known as Khimkinskoye Cemetery), 30 km north-west of central Moscow on Sunday (December 22), to mark the third anniversary of his death.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey since July 2013, Karlov was assassinated at the launch of photography exhibition on December 19, 2016.

The Russian Ambassador to Turkey since July 2013 Andrei Karlov was assassinated at the launch of photography exhibition in the evening of 19 December 2016. He was invited to speak at the show of Turkish photography of the Russian countryside "Russia Through Turks' Eyes" at the Cagdas Sanat Merkezi centre for modern arts when an off-duty Turkish police officer Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş entered the room and fatally wounded the Ambassador, injuring several other people. The assassin shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) and "Don't forget Aleppo," The shooting was treated as an act of terror.
