As part of the initiative, one railway coach has already been converted into a prototype quarantine facility to trial the concept.
Rajkot Isolation coaches are being prepared in Rajkot railway workshop.

Each coach consist 9 compartments in which one compartment is for Para medical staff and other 8 are for quarantined persons. One toilet has been converted into bathroom and middle berth has been removed from all compartments for the comfort of patients. Each compartment consists of mosquito net, curtains, and hand wash holder. One such coach is kept ready for service in Rajkot Station and railway board will decide stationing other coaches within 15 days all coaches will be ready as more than fifty staff has came forward to work voluntarily.

Each of the railway zones will be ordered to transform ten coaches into such isolation wards every week.
In the worst scenario, the coaches will accommodate up to 16 patients with two in each compartment.
The move comes at a time when the number of coronavirus cases in India has exceeded 1,000. The figure witnessed a steep surge in the last few days, registering a daily increase of around 100 patients
