A man in Ireland is being dubbed a "hero" by family members for saving a cygnet who was separated from its family.

The clip, filmed on May 9, shows Josh Wiler jumping into the trench next to the pond in an attempt to save the baby swan and return it back to its family in the pond.

Josh's girlfriend Marie told Newsflare: "The family were drifting close to the gap when they changed course and turned back. The cygnet was at the end of the group and accidentally fell down the drain.

"Josh, in an instant went to find somewhere he could jump down, he then slowly and quietly tries to approach the crying cygnet to rescue it."

Josh manages to entice the cygnet to a corner where he can easily grab it and put it back into the water to be reunited with its family.

I filmed this video, my name is Marie Nolanhis, my boyfriends name is Josh Wiler ! I filmed this video on Saturday 9th may 2020, I am from Lakelands Terenure College, Dublin, Ireland. Directly after this video, as you might hear at the end of the video the few adults and children applauded Josh and his efforts. Directly after, Josh Wiler (the guy who saved the cygnet) and I went for a walk as he didn't want any attention, he was just happy that the cygnet was safe and back with the family. I then sent this video to a whatsapp group with my friends, they thought it was very cute and quoted 'OMG he's a Hero' which we found very funny at the time. We were watching the beautiful swans and their babies as they made their way up the pond away from their nest. The Cignets were only 2 days old the day this video was taken. We had been watching the swan sat upon her nest for weeks prior. We caught a glimpse of the cignets the day prior when they had hatched! The family were drifting close to the gap when they changed course and turned back. The cignet that fell down into the drain was at the end of the group and accidentally fell down. Josh in an instance went to find somewhere he could jump down ( as we see in the video) he then slowly and quietly tries to approach the crying cygnet to rescue it. The 2 swans (Mammy and Daddy) could hear the cries of their baby and you can see them trying to find where the cries were coming from. Josh putting his hand up to almost say ' it's ok, I'm not hear to harm'. The cygnet sprints back bye josh, Josh follows while trying not to slip! Eventually he catches the cignet and returns it to his family in the pond. A happy ending :)


We had been going to this park daily for outdoor workouts, and we would pass the swan sitting on her nest for weeks before the cignets hatched. Just so happened that he was at the right place at the right time that day.
