Statue of slave trader, Robert Milligan being taken down at Canary Wharf
Due to the recent global protests and riots regarding racial injustices following the death of George Floyd many statues of known slave traders have been defaced or destroyed by protesters. Due to the known nature of Robert Milligan (slave owner, trader and merchant) the Tower Hamlets council in London which presides over West India Quay and Canary Wharf decided to remove the statue. This was a sanctioned removal and there were professionals responsible in the removal of the statue. There were also over 20 police officers to keep the peace and media outlets covering the story. People were clapping and others playing drums in support of the removal. There was no violence and everything went as planned.
