Elliot Brooke gave a speech to a crowd of over a thousand people at the Trans Rights Protest in London on 4 July. Addressing JK Rowling's comments on social media regarding trans identity, Elliot had this to say:

"A couple of weeks ago, JK Rowling decided to chime in on this debate. Funnily enough, I'm not feeling too great about my thirteen years of being a Harry Potter fan. There is a lot I could say about this. I'm going to focus on one statement of hers in particular. She says 'I would march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans.' Well, while we are still having to fight to use the bathroom in peace, while we are still having to fight the legality of conversion therapy and while we are still being burnt alive in our cars, smothered with bags of concrete and mutilated and dumped in rubbish heaps - all things that have happened this year, by the way - it is not, as JK Rowling suggested, a question of "IF" we are being oppressed. It is a fact (applause). 'I'd march with you if you were being discriminated against on the basis of being trans'...then where the fk are you today, JK Rowling?" (wild applause)
