Crews dismantle Jefferson Davis monument in Richmond, Virginia
After an emergency directive from Richnond mayor Levar Stoney the confederate statues of Monument Avenue were removed by construction experts. The Jefferson Davis monument already heavily graffitied featured numerous Lost Cause icons which crews spent the day removing.
Construction workers use a crane to lift the Vindicatrix statue from the top of the Jefferson Davis Confederate Memorial on Monument Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. The 7ft tall copper figure known as Miss Confederacy has stood atop the monument for 113 years & is widely regarded as an icon of the Lost Cause mythology.
Construction crews disassemble and remove the copper figure of Vindicatrix from the top of the Jefferson Davis Confederate Memorial in Richmond, Virginia. The memorial was constructed in 1907 on Richmond's historic Monument Avenue.
