Eight injured as chemical factory in South Africa's Durban explodes

At least eight people have been injured after an explosion occurred at a chemical factory in New Germany, west of Durban on Tuesday (December 8). 

According to reports, there were at least two explosions that went off within the vicinity and two people have been sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Footage filmed by Luc Quevauvilliers shows plumes of smoke billowing up into the air.

The factory is located on Otto Volek Road in the New Germany Industrial Park area.

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this stage.
