Footage has emerged of a plane dumping fuel before landing at an airport in Padang in Sumatra, Indonesia on 16 December.

The video was filmed by a passenger on board the plane, going from Jakarta to Padang, after the aircraft had already circled in the air for a while.

The filmer blamed clouds and an adverse wind direction for the pilot's actions, ahead of a successful landing at the city's main international airport, Minangkabau International Airport.

After turning around for a while, the plane I was traveling in dumped its fuel at around 2000 meters high. this is the first time I have seen the plane I was riding in dumping fuel which I witnessed myself. Usually, planes from Jakarta to Padang land directly from the east but maybe because of the thick clouds of the wind direction, we have to turn around 10 kilometers from the airport to then land at Minang Kabau International Airport
