An excavator operator died in a landmine explosion in the Nagorno-Karabakh region on Wednesday (January 13).

Footage from December 12, 2020 shows a landmine being exploded in the distance in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

A deactivator from the Anti Mining National Agency of Azerbaijan said: "We started the November 21 and we found 97 anti-tank mines that didn't explode, and also ammunition like missiles and bombs that didn't explode.

"As you can see there are empty fields. We will now try to focus on the roads. The most important thing is to build new communication and infrastructure lines. This is our main purpose at the moment."

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, by January 11, Russian peacekeepers cleared about 479 hectares and defused over 23,000 explosives.

So to tell the exact date for full clearence of the mines it is impossible to say. But if there are lots of mines it could be between 5 and 7 years to clear the whole area.
