This is the tear-inducing moment an African American woman discovers she shares genetic ancestry with the Tikar people in Cameroon, central Africa.

Sahara told Newsflare: "I, Sahara Williams, have longed to know my African ancestry my entire life. However, it is not until I purchased a DNA test that I was able to find out.

"Due to the slave trade, my family's heritage and history were stripped away from them.

"This video captures the moment I receive and open the results with the accompaniment of my Armenian boyfriend, Andrew. My Persian best friend and her father are also in the background of the video supporting me in finding out my ancestry."

Sahara (@saharaimani) recorded her reaction on January 17 in California and posted it to TikTok with the caption: "Slavery affects African Americans in ways you couldn’t imagine. I am so proud to know where I am from."

The emotional video quickly went viral, receiving 1 million views and an outpour of support.
