Film director Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror, Robin Hood) and Danish “supervillain” Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Doctor Strange) team up with German mountain bike brand, YT Industries, to create an epic thriller short film: ‘Return of the Goat II – New World Order’ for the launch of their latest bike, the ‘CAPRA’.

If you’re a devoted mountain biker then YT (Young Talent) Industries should be a household name. But even if you are not – YET! – this edgy bike brand will reel you in with slick promo flicks for their new bike releases.

Their latest campaign, directed by Otto Bathurst made to launch their brand new full-spec enduro bike, the ‘CAPRA’, is next level! The sequel to ‘Return of the Goat’ takes us on an action-packed thriller ride through a world in the grips of a sci-fi pandemic (Yeah, we know…), where a species of mutant Goatmen are out to replace the human race.

Part American Werewolf in London, part cop thriller, ‘Return of the Goat II – New World Order’ is off the wall, has bikes, and stars Mads Mikkelsen - a self-proclaimed mountain bike enthusiast. What more could you want from a killer bike release promo? Or for that matter, a blockbuster film?

After starting work on the storyboard of ‘Return of the Goat II – New World Order’ in 2019, the project came under threat from the real-life pandemic of COVID-19. To get the film from concept, to camera and cutting room and your eyes was a mission impossible. Coordinating a team of over 200 in the midst of an unimaginable global pandemic and keeping everyone safe on sets in the UK and Slovenia, required elaborate planning and complex safety protocols, unheard before COVID-19.

“I love the design of the bikes and their simplicity. They are clean-looking, and every bike should look like that.”
– Mads Mikkelsen, Actor

“The actors did such an awesome job. Tom Mothersdale and Freya Lund were the best camping couple we could have imagined. FBI leader Kumbi Mushambi nailed it perfectly and had a really hard job because his squad wasn’t made up of actors it was a legit and intimidating team of Slovenian special forces agents. We wanted the government official to be someone with real character and the fact that Mads Mikkelsen signed up for this between major Hollywood productions was such an honor.”
– Andreas John, Creative Director YT Industries

“The main reason I said yes to this project was the first film. I thought it was intriguing that a super cool film was made by guys selling mountain bikes. So, when I heard that YT wanted to go bigger and look to expand and build on the indie horror vibe while exploring new cross genre territory, I thought that was a really exciting playground to be in.”
– Otto Bathurst, Director

“It is super important to us to get every single detail right and one of the most vital elements is finding the right director. We were more than lucky to get Otto Bathurst on board. Otto is such a down-to-earth guy and it was really fun working with him on the script and production. He was always the first and the last on set. Every single day.”
– Andreas John, Creative Director YT Industries

“Together with Shift Active Media, we arranged production groups to be in bubbles to ensure a safe production environment. It is part of our DNA to work on unique campaigns to release our bikes and we were not going to let the pandemic deny us that. Mads is an avid mountain biker himself and was convinced by the script and story. We are stoked how the film turned out.”
– Markus Flossmann, Founder & CVO YT Industries

“When SHIFT first received the draft script from Andi and Markus, it was apparent that the ambition to create something truly next level for the YT Capra campaign was real. Led by myself, Producer Ben Catford and Executive Creative Director, Matt Doman, we sculpted the team and began to shortlist our preferred Directors. It wasn't long before we were able to welcome SHIFT's hometown-based, world-renowned Director, Otto Bathurst to help develop the ROTG2 script and bring the vision to life. It's been a 12-month production and has been worked on by in excess of 200 professionals, from actors and stunt artists to scriptwriters, editors, and music composers, with a crew across the UK, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, Australia, and beyond. With a production of this scale, for a brand of this quality, everyone pours their heart and soul into making it truly epic and are all incredibly proud of what we've created! We hope the audience enjoys watching it as much as we enjoyed producing it.”
– James Dando, Business Director Shift Active Media

“ROTG II was the perfect opportunity to embrace the full gamut of award-winning visual effects we’ve dedicated to commercials the past sixteen years. YT’s engagement with their community and the passion in what they’re achieving truly sets them apart and bridges the gap between branded content and film. From a VFX perspective, completing the complex CG transformation from man-to-goat allowed us to push our creature FX pipeline further than ever before, whilst a number of set extensions were key to transforming a limestone quarry into the Utah desert for the title sequence. Otto and the team really trusted us with expanding upon their vision and I'm grateful for the chance to work with them all. As an ambitious and growing visual effects company, we're really proud of what our artists have achieved and are excited about what's coming next!”
– Danny Duke, Executive Producer Absolute
