Dramatic footage has emerged of the view from inside a tornado in Rochelle, IL, US last week.

In the video, driver and passengers can be heard panicking as they realise they're coming into the tornado's path while the storm continues outside their car.

The filmer later wrote online that they were "trying to outrun the massive tornado", adding "the conditions were horrendous."

"The winds were incredible. Pushing us from side to side. It was a total blackout with hail and a downpour of rain."

The force 4 tornado ripped through the area last week, causing widespread damage.
