Tensions flared as the Tunisian president suspended parliament and dismissed the prime minister.
President Kais Saied sacked Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi after a series of nationwide protests on Sunday (July 25).

President Kais Saied has suspended the parliament for 30 days and dismissed the prime minster, Hichem Mechichi. On Monday, the parliament was surrounded by police and military forces. The parliament speaker, Ennahdha party leader Rached Ghannouchi, was not allowed to enter. Police were on-site to prevent clashes between Ennahdha's supporters and those who were in favor of the president’s decision.
