Homes have been evacuated and roads left impassable after torrential downpours across Cumbria. Eight flood warnings and 12 flood alerts remain in force on Friday while the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain. A 'danger to life' warning was issued on Thursday as some areas were hit with up to 13 inches of rain.

Several rivers burst their banks and more than 1,200 properties had to be protected by the Environment Agency. Some roads, including the A592 Patterdale Road, A595 Holmrook and the A5086 Gote Bridge Road in Cockermouth, have been flooded with Cumbria Police advising people to travel only if necessary.

The video shows flooded streets of Cumbria, UK.
