Nasua is a genus of coatis of the family Procyonidae. The raccoon nasua got its name because of a kind of movable nose resembling a trunk.
South American nasua are usually active during the day, most of which they spend on the ground in search of food, while at night they sleep in trees, which also serve to create a den and give birth to offspring. When they are in danger on the ground, they hide from it in trees, when the enemy is in a tree, they easily jump from a branch of one tree to a lower branch on the same or even another tree. South American noses are not only good at climbing trees and swimming well. They walk slowly on the ground, although they can gallop for short distances, but they have never trotted. The average speed of their movement is about 1 m per second.
