Slow start to Black Friday as London’s Oxford Street is deserted
Black Friday got off to a slow start in central London's Oxford Street.
While in previous years queues of shoppers have been seen outside stories in preparation for their opening, today the capital's main shopping thoroughfare was deserted at between 6-7am. And while previously some stores have opened early to let shoppers in, it looks like today retailers were sticking to their normal hours.
"Black Friday gets off to its worst start in Oxford Street in central London," said Newsflare's filmer. "There is literally no one queueing. I have done two laps of Oxford Street so far. Possibly due to the Tube strike, stores that normally have black Friday queues had no people queueing. Shops like Primark and JD Sports and Nike Town are often the earliest to open with the biggest queues."
A 24-hour strike on five London Underground lines is underway, which may mean some shoppers make their purchases online.
