0.3 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Food Industries, Mohamed Al-Wadiya

STORYLINE:

The agricultural sector in the Gaza Strip is facing many difficult economic challenges due to the high global grain prices.

Global wheat production is expected to reach a high-water mark this year

The global corn harvest is also set for new highs, which unlike wheat is expected to build stocks, though relative tightness may also stick around in the corn market and it is uncertain whether the complete sigh of relief will arrive in 2022 or later.

Global grains and oilseed stocks are low, especially in export regions, after a year of high demand and supply failures.

This has delivered high prices, and the real concern about the world's capacity to restock in 2022 means additional buying and stock retention "just in case".
