An off-road biker in California learned the hard way that doing a trick on two wheels can have painful consequences if you don't nail it first time.

In footage filmed on 30 December 2021, rider Nick Saffire said: "Riding out in the hills my buddy got a flat tire so we took the road back and decided to try out 12 o’clock wheelies".

But super-high wheelies are a tough trick to master and Nick took the bike beyond vertical, falling off at speed.

Incredibly, he wasn't too badly hurt.

"I had to get back to where we were staying and stretch my body out after and ice up but I didn’t get any road rash or anything like that," he said.

Better still, there was "barely a scratch" on the bike, despite the pounding it must have taken.

"I took it as a learning experience to get better."
