Israeli soldiers close the main entrance between Jenin and Nablus
RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Nablus, 16 January 2021. Israeli soldiers close the main entrance between Jenin and Nablus in the West Bank.
STORYLINE:
Israeli forces shut down today a major section of the Nablus-Jenin road in the north of the West Bank, denying access of Palestinian traffic to the road according to local sources.
Mohammad Azem, mayor of the nearby Sebastia village, told WAFA that Israeli soldiers shut down the road using a metal bar outside the illegal Israeli settlement of Shavei Shomron, about 8 kilometers to the west of Nablus, forcing Palestinian vehicles to use alternative, longer routes.
This section of the road, which is considered a major point of transportation connecting the north, center and south of the occupied West Bank, has been shut down almost all of the time for nearly one month, and has only been reopened intermittently for short periods by the Israeli occupation army.
Closures besides to other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 51-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
