Creepy zombie snail with flashing horns found crawling in garden in Myanmar
A creepy zombie snail with flashing horns was found crawling in a garden in Myanmar.
The unusual creature had bright green and red ‘eyes' that seemed to pulsate while it perched on a leaf in Yangon on June 19.
It laid motionless except for its colourful blinking eyes that seemed to have bulged compared to a regular snail's.
Resident Kwan Lin Oo found the creature while he was cleaning his yard and asked his friends about it before discovering that the snail was a ‘zombie' being controlled' by a parasite.
Kwan said: ‘It was so strange. Its eyes were changing colours like a disco light. I asked my friends about it and found out it was as good as dead. A parasite had already taken over its body.'
The zombie snail was taken over by a parasitic worm called Leucochloridium which could live and control inside its host's body.
It invades the snail's eyestalks where it pulsates to mimic a caterpillar so the bird eats them. The parasite would then lay eggs inside the bird's intestines which would be emitted through its faeces.
