A major power outage occurred in downtown Toronto on Thursday, August 11, leaving the offices in the dark, forcing the evacuation of shopping malls, and several people were trapped in elevators.

Hydro One (H.TO), Ontario's electricity distribution company, said power had been restored, and a crane on a barge traveling in the Port Lands hit the utility's high-voltage transmission lines causing the power failure.
