Brighton issues warnings after teenagers jump off Palace Pier
Two teenagers jumped off Brighton Pier on Saturday, despite warnings by lifeguards that the stunt is extremely dangerous.
The footage filmed on August 13 shows one of the two climbing over the railing and then jumping into the sea. Several voices can be heard in the background warning him not to jump.
Authorities later said the two were lucky not to get injured, particularly as they jumped in while the tide was low.
“We realise that it’s tempting to jump from height into the water, especially with such great weather but submerged items may not be visible and could cause serious injury if you hit them," local media cited operations manager Roger Cohen.
“The shock of cold water may also make it difficult to swim and in some places strong currents might sweep you away.”
