A Curved Beak, a Hungry Pigeon: The Struggle to Eat

Buy video

Pigeons are known for their strong, straight beaks, which they use to crack open seeds and grains to eat. However, for some pigeons, a curved beak can be a challenging obstacle. As the beak grows, it may become misaligned or misshapen, making it difficult for the pigeon to reach and grasp food. This can lead to malnutrition and other health issues.
Pigeon suffering from disease, called avian keratin disorder (AKD), is characterized by debilitating beak overgrowth and other abnormalities of keratinized tissues. Affected birds have difficulty feeding and preening, and can suffer high rates of mortality.
In severe cases, a pigeon with a curved beak may struggle to eat at all and may require human intervention to survive. However, with proper care and treatment, many pigeons are able to overcome this obstacle and go on to lead happy, healthy lives.
