Activist that threw soup over Van Gogh's painting says: 'minimal damage was made'

Phoebe Plummer, one of the two activists that threw soup over the painting "Sunflowers" by Van Gogh at the National Gallery in London, talks to the camera the day after appearing in court.

She says: "I would like to make one thing perfectly clear: we did no damage to the painting whatsoever".

Plummer explains that minimal damage was made to the frame and that the painting was behind glass.

Commenting on recent tactics employed by activists worlwide, including hers, she says: "They do work. My soup video got 50 million views. People around the world are talking about it".

She added: "I recognise that this looks like a ridiculous action. It is ridiculous but what we are doing is getting the conversation going so we can ask the questions that matter".

The two female activists that thew soup over Van Gogh's painting, aged 20 and 21, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 15.
They pleaded not guilty to criminal damage and were released on bail.
