Activists staged a protest near the Embassy of Israel in London as part of global protests against the new government in Israel on Saturday 4 February.

The protesters held up signs in Hebrew and English reading 'Defend Israeli Democracy' and 'The accused does not appoint his judges', among others.

Rallies were due to be held across Europe, the US, Canada and Australia against Benjamin Netanyahu's new government -- the most right-wing in Israel's history -- and its plan to allow Israel's parliament to override Supreme Court decisions by a simple majority vote.

They also oppose changes that would allow politicians to hold the balance of power on the committee that appoints Supreme Court judges. Currently, judges on the committee effectively have veto power over such appointments.
