Meet the millennial who loves to crochet hats for her dogs – and has made them over 100 outfits.

Jani, 31, taught herself the skill after finding herself "bored" when she was affected by multiple power outages in winter 2018."

She bought herself books and crochet hooks and spent weeks perfecting her technique.

Jani decided she wanted to make something for her two dogs - Sookie, 12, and Ivy, 10 - and settled on designing hats.

She shared her creations for her Staffy mixes on her social media and fans loved the idea.

Jani has now created over 100 hats for her dogs – including a broccoli, Easter bunny, sunflower and green beans.

Jani, a content creator, from Boston, Massachusetts, US, said: "They look so cute in their hats."

"They love filming, but they take the hats off straight after."

"Sometimes I put on one when we go for a walk and it’s really cold."

"When people think of crochet, they think of something you’d see draped over your grandma’s couch."

"I think people associate crochet with something old people do."

"I’m trying to make crochet cool."

"People realise I’m in my 30s and they say: ‘She’s not 70’."

"You can do so much with crochet."

Jani worked in sales before her crochet page took off and she was able to take it full time six months ago.

"When I start a hobby, I drop everything," she said."

"For the first three weeks I don’t think I put down the hooks."

"I already had an Instagram page for the dogs, so I knew I wanted to make them something."

"There a not a lot of patterns out there for anything dog related so I had to figure it out on my own."

"I made them a carrot hat and it just went crazy."

Now Jani has made over 100 hats for Sookie and Ivy - with food themed designs becoming popular with her followers.

"They love the broccoli hat," she said."

"I’ve done green beans, watermelon and dragon fruit."

Jani starts off by looking at a cartoon version of what she is making before picturing how they would work on her dogs faces.

"I keep the patterns in my head," she said."

"Some of the designs are really quick to do."

"I did the green beans and watermelon in 45 minutes. "

"The dragon fruit took a lot longer as I had to thread on different pieces."

Jani lives with her fiancé who helps with the dogs while she films.

"He’s super supportive," she said."

"He loves it."

Jani is no stranger to negative comments saying it’s "abuse" to put the hats on the dogs."

"I don’t force them to do it," she said."

"I couldn’t imagine doing that I love them so much."

Jani now makes content and sells some of her patterns and wants to start making tutorials on the skill.

"The goal is to have more of a crochet focus," she said."

"My co-workers are dogs."

"You can do so much with crochet and create any shape you want."
