France Protests Turn Violent: Arrival of BRAV-M at Paris Opera Amidst Day of Anger Over Macron's Pension Changes
On Thursday, March 23, 2023, France witnessed the ninth day of nationwide protests, with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets to protest against President Emmanuel Macron's plan to raise the pension age by two years to 64. The day of anger over Macron's pension changes resulted in violence and disruption across the country.
In Paris, police fired tear gas and fought with violent black-clad anarchists as they marched towards the Opera. The arrival of the BRAV-M at Paris Opera at 6:05 p.m. was a significant event, amidst the chaos and unrest that prevailed in the city.
The BRAV-M, or Brigade de Recherche et d'Assistance au Victimes de Masse, is a specialized unit of the French police that deals with mass casualties and disasters. Its arrival at the Paris Opera was a sign of the severity of the situation.
