A video has emerged from the United States of a brand new iPhone 6S bursting into flames when a man douses it with bromine.

In the video, which captured on Friday in Placer County, the filmer places some aluminium foil in a container, puts the phone on top and then pours in the bromine, causing a powerful chemical reaction.

After several splashes of bromine, the smart phone bursts into flames and is completely destroyed.

"You've probably never wondered what happens when you pour liquid bromine on an iPhone 6S," the filmer wrote online.

"All you need to know is this stuff is NASTY. Probably shouldn't try it," he added.
