A motorist filmed as a determined opossum battle against raging floodwater on a road in San Angelo, Texas.

Footage from June 23 features the marsupial trying to walk head-first into the raging torrent streaming across a road.

The filmer said: "San Angelo had a thunderstorm that evening, with heavy rain and beautiful lightning show. San Angelo is like a bubble, rain storms usually pass right by. So when we do get rain, we all are very thankful!

"We decided to take a cruise once the weather eased up a little bit and check out the park's river. We saw a few raccoons roaming the park until we got to our awesome opossum.

"I have 3 videos of him trying to cross the street and when he finally makes it. He rests over the curb once he makes it across. A great example of life, some might say."
