Riots and looking in Bondy amid unrest in France

The once bustling Lidl store in North Bondy, a Paris suburb, now stands shuttered and silent after being ransacked and looted during the night of June 29 to 30. In the wake of the tumultuous revolt triggered by the death of young driver Naël, who was killed in a police shooting, the community is grappling with the aftermath of losing the convenient shopping spot.

The impact of the store's closure has been keenly felt by the inhabitants of the district, with many questioning the availability of essential supplies and everyday necessities. Local resident Marie Leclerc laments, "Habits are turned upside down. In some areas with few shops, such as North Bondy, the mission can be tricky, especially for the elderly or people with reduced mobility."

The closure is not just limited to Bondy; more than 200 large retail stores across the nation suffered a similar fate during the upheaval. The incident has left merchants and regular shoppers reeling as they strive to adapt and find alternatives for their daily needs.

As the video from July 24, 2023, depicts, the town of Bondy, also renowned as the hometown of star football player Kylian Mbappe, now faces the challenging task of rebuilding not only infrastructure but also community trust and unity in the aftermath of these urban revolts.
