In a bizarre incident on July 26, 2023, a suspected bank burglar's escape plan was thwarted when he fell into a recycling bin where the police were waiting for him.

The Huron Police Department responded to an alarm at the VacationLand Federal Credit Union in Huron, Ohio, at 2:12 a.m. Officers heard noises from the roof area and discovered a recycling can placed strategically beneath an access door.

Body camera footage captured the suspect, identified as Tristan J. Heidl, 27, of Huron, Ohio, unexpectedly entering from the ceiling. The officers quickly ordered him to the ground and apprehended him from the recycling bin.

Heidl was charged with breaking, possession of criminal tools, and safecracking. Despite his efforts to access the bank's money, he was unsuccessful and remains in Erie County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Chief Terry Graham commended the officers for their swift and safe capture of the suspect.
