With the Environment Agency overstretched by the demands placed on it clearing up after Storm Desmond, a resident of Grasmere today called for Army support to help clear the becks & rivers following the recent landslides in the village.

The Army's 21 Engineer Regiment worked 24/7 & tackled the clean up of the A591 in record time, removing 1000 tonnes of rubble. Sappers were invited into the school for tea & cake, so the school children and the villagers could say thanks before they handed the job over to the Council to fix.

The Army sent a media team to the area & posted two videos onto their Facebook site - it has 1.4Million followers.

One covering the actual clean up.
