During a hike in Kananaskis, Alberta, Cody Bilben and Bree Lion had an unexpected and thrilling encounter when they parked their car near a group of bighorn sheep on Tuesday (October 3).

"Cody and I witnessed something crazy and humbling. We rolled up to the parking lot, and this grizzly was ambling down the highway. But there was also a herd of bighorn sheep nearby. Grizzlies move fast when chasing prey," Bree remarked.

The moment was breathtaking as a large grizzly bear took to the road and began motoring after the hundreds of now-fleeing bighorn sheep.

"What is happening? That's insane!" Cody said on the video.

The bear continues to chase but isn't able to catch the scattering sheep.

"Bears demand our respect and distance. We were safely beside the car when the sheep turned our way. For those enjoying fall hikes, remember: don't get too close to wildlife and always have your bear spray!" Bree added, emphasizing the importance of safety. "Feeling like we experienced something very special today. What a beautiful creature and a wild day!"

Cody and I got to witness something pretty crazy and honestly a little humbling today in Kananaskis when we rolled up to the parking lot for a late fall hike today. This guy was ambling down the highway as we got to the parking lot but little did we know there was a herd of bighorn sheep hanging around as well. Turns out, grizzlies can move pretty fast when they are chasing after prey. I hope this video can be a good reminder that bears are out and about right now and they demand our respect and distance. I’m grateful we were safely perched right beside the car inside the door, when the sheep turned our way. Some things to remember when you’re getting in your last fall hikes… Don’t get too close to wildlife (on second thought, we probably should have just stayed in the car). Don’t forget your bear spray! And take a friend (or a few) along for any hikes right now!!! Bears are super active right now as they prepare for winter.
