Train drivers who are members of the Aslef union walked out on Wednesday morning, targeting the closing day of the Conservative Party conference.

Aslef's general secretary Mick Whelan said ministers "don't seem to want a resolution" to a long-running pay dispute with drivers, which also saw members take strike action and other forms of industrial action as the Tory conference opened on Sunday.

Mr Whelan said of ministers: "These people don't care. They don't want a resolution. They deliberately set up the last deal to fail by putting all our red lines in it, knowing we couldn't accept it. And they do not want to talk to us at all."
