Mayan ruins in the jungle
Fancy being in the ruins of Mayan city alone? Belize could help. There are still a few sites out of the reach of common tourist and you may enjoy them only by yourself.
The archaeological site of Uxbenka is considered one of the five most interesting sites in the Toledo region of Belize, along with other sites, such as Nim Li Punit and Lubaantun.
Uxbenka, however, is much smaller, has exceptional views of the foothills of Maya Mountains. However there are not enough money to make this site interesting for a mainstream tourist. It is well hidden out of the main road and there is not a lot written about it.
In recent years, archaeologists have suggested that the site may be considerably larger than previously thought. In fact, some believe that it may stretch to include several mountains in the vicinity.
Unfortunately, this area is not officially open to the public. It is located close to the Santa Cruz village and while exploring, person has still a feeling of being a modern Indiana Jones. Not a lot places in the world like this anymore.
