The Venezuelan liberal Maria Corina Machado, who swept the opposition primaries, rejected this Tuesday the disqualification against her to compete against President Nicolas Maduro in the 2024 elections and assured that she will be able to participate.

The 56-year-old leader, who promises to end socialism and impose a liberal economy, won the opposition primaries last Sunday and became the unity candidate for the elections scheduled for next year.

She obtained 1.5 million votes, 93%, according to the second bulletin released after 65% of the minutes had been scrutinized.

"Whoever proposes at this moment the term disqualification, what he is saying is that what happened on Sunday was worthless, does not know what happened. People must be listened to. I have received a mandate on Sunday and I am going to comply that mandate."
"I received a mandate last Sunday, a clear, unequivocal mandate that forces us to fight tirelessly to achieve the defeat of Nicolas Maduro and the regime in clean and free presidential elections in 2024."
