Japan declares sterilization "unconstitutional" to officialize gender change

Japan's Supreme Court on Wednesday declared "unconstitutional" and "cruel" the legal obligation to sterilize transgender people to make their name change official in civil identification records and found that it imposes "severe restrictions" on the person's life.
This was the verdict of Japan's highest court, which found that forced sterilization "restricts the right of individuals not to have their bodies interfered with against their will."
